Best practices for safely cleaning window tinting films

Window Tinting is a great investment for your home or office as it can really enhance your windows. However, windows that have window film need to be cleaned differently than regular glass.

Before cleaning your tinted windows, be sure to wait at least 30 days after installation to allow the film to cure. Some window film can take 30-60 days to fully cure. If you notice that the window film still has small bubbles, wait a little longer before washing it.

1. Do not use abrasive materials.

One important thing to know when it comes to window film is that the top coat can get scratched if we use something abrasive. Therefore, avoid using the following items:

  • Scrub / scratch pads.

  • Brushes.

  • Abrasive paper towels.

  • Blades or scrapers.

Instead of using towels, newspapers, or paper towels, try using a soft sponge or microfiber cloth to clean the window.

2. Use mild cleaners when cleaning your windows

The cleaner used to clean the window is just as important as the material used. You can use any non-abrasive window cleaning solution. Skip the stronger cleaners, as they offer to ruin window film. Be careful not to use any solution that contains ammonia, as it can ruin certain window films.

At TintXperts, we like to use a mild liquid dish soap diluted with water to clean all of our clients’ windows. We prefer to use something smooth and free of unnecessary ingredients like Palmolive Pure and Clear . Fill a spray bottle with water and add just a few drops of dish soap.

If you prefer to use a window cleaner, use mild, ammonia-free cleaners. We recommend Sprayway Glass Cleaner, which you can buy from Amazon, Walmart, and other stores. If you like Windex, be sure to buy the ammonia-free version.

3. Be sure to dry the window film well.

It is very important to dry the window well after washing. A soft or microfiber cloth is the best way to do this. If you like to use a squeegee, make sure the rubber is soft and be careful not to scratch the film with the rubber channel.

In conclusion, it is not that difficult to keep windows that have window film washed. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact us.
